University experiences easily differs from either the most dreadful or the best time of your life. This vast difference in experience could simply be controlled with a single decision. As a veteran, going into my forth year in University, I can undeniably say that being part of a student-run club is the best decision any university student could make. Telfer School of Management has noticed the enhanced university student experiences due to these student-ran clubs and has invested greatly towards them in their marketing strategy. Telfer currently has 15 different clubs under them which provides students the opportunity to grow and network with each other. All 15 of these different clubs have different goals and missions, and run different events throughout the years. All 15 of these different clubs have truly shaped Telfer to become what it is. By providing students unique events it allows unprecedented growth opportunities. I can truly say that being part of these clubs has helped build the foundation of every one of my soft skills. Going into further details in my experience; one of the clubs I had recently joined is the Telfer Accounting Club. Following TAC's mission of connecting ambitious students to accounting firms, I was able to enhance many of my soft skills. Whether it was leadership skills, or adaptability, many of my skillsets were challenged on a daily basis which has helped me become more confident and skilled. Additionally, one of the greatest things joining a club would allow students is the ability to network pool. Due to the Telfer Accounting Club, I was able to meet with recruiters from the majority of the accounting firms in Ottawa. These firms ranged from Big 4 such as Deloitte, KPMG to boutique firms. These networking opportunities and the relationship built is truly priceless as I was able to truly gain an excess amount of knowledge from these professionals. I have countless of individuals who were able to secure their positions at different firms due to their relationship they built in a student club. Club alumni's or club sponsors are constantly looking to hire and due to the massive networking pool, joining a club opens doors to great opportunities.
If there are any university students currently reading this blog, I strongly suggest you join any of these 15 clubs in Telfer. These club experiences will truly help you grow as an individual while being able to party along the way.
